I've never worked on ferry or passenger ship, but regular bulk carriers always use ship chandler's services. Don't know if they deal with passengers....
FishX (asker) Oct 25, 2009:
The document is an information memoradum for a ferry company which provides ferry services involving passenger and cargo transportation - that's all I have but on that basis I think your answer fits the bill and I will certainly use it unless someone comes up with a better idea.
Caryl Swift Oct 25, 2009:
No context at all???!! You mean that all you have is this one phrase - no document from which it comes, even?
FishX (asker) Oct 25, 2009:
I don't have any more context, but I don't see any problem with your suggestion
Caryl Swift Oct 25, 2009:
Context? You don't give us any context. But I wondered if, perhaps, your phrase might be referring to a shipping services office???

shipping services office

I've done some research and since there seem to be a number of ferry companies that carry not only passengers, but also cargo, and since it seems that what ferry companies offer may be referred to as a shipping service, I'm posting the suggestion. Here are some references:

(this is a link to a list of Google hits, I'm afraid. I wouldn;t normally post such a thing, but there are two pertinent, and authoratative, pdf links - gov. uk and ec.europa - and they can only otherwise be accessed via a Google password)

Good luck!

ship chandler's office / ship chandler

A ship chandler is a retail dealer in special supplies or equipment for ships.

For traditional sailing ships items that could be found in a chandler might include: rosin, turpentine, tar, pitch (resin), linseed oil, whale oil, tallow, lard, varnish, twine, rope and cordage, hemp, oakum, tools (hatchet, axe, hammer, chisel, planes, lantern, nail, spike, boat hook, caulking iron, hand pump, marlinspike), brooms, mops, galley supplies, leather goods, and paper.

Today's chandlers deal more in goods typical for fuel-powered commercial ships, such as oil tankers, container ships, bulk carriers. They supply the crew's food, ships maintenance supplies, cleaning compounds, paint, rope, et cetera. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_chandler
