French term

hôtellerie de plein air

French to English Other Tourism & Travel
Notre cabinet, depuis plus de 10 ans, a développé une expertise particulière dans le secteur de l’hôtellerie de plein air, notamment dans les opérations de transmission de campings...

It's for the website of a law firm.

I came up with:

high-end/upscale camping and caravanning but really hate it.

Other suggestions which don't sound good:

outdoor accommodation
outdoor hotel industry
outdoor hospitality

Rory I don't agree with your first and third suggestions, but the other two are fine.

agree Richard Faul : Yes. I worked in-house for a company making software for "l'hôtellerie de plein air" and this was always my go-to solution. I notice they also use this translation on the INSEE website: https://www.insee.fr/en/metadonnees/source/serie/s1243/

campsite sector

Be careful not to over-interpret here: it is just a poncy euphemism for 'camping', in all its shapes and forms, but by no means only 'glamping' etc.
Peer comment(s):

agree Jeremy Smith : I was about to suggest the horrible word "glamping" but then had second thoughts.

Thanks, Jeremy!
neutral B D Finch : I think that this might not involve tents or caravans, just a new fad for those with more money than sense.

Thanks, B! It might not... but that's what it USUALLY means — and includes tree-houses, gypsy caravans, igloos, yurts, etc.
agree AllegroTrans : I would say camping sector
18 hrs
Thanks, C! I suggested 'campsite' as I was anxious to make it clear this is directed at e.g. the owners of campsites, rather than to the camping public.

glamping

*If* you can confirm it's high-end, and not just tent-camping, then I would say glamping! Very frequently used. Examples abound. Run a google search. : )
Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : Over-interpretation: the FR term covers a great deal more than JUST this, and it would give a false impression.

My explanation started " 'If' you can confirm it's high-end..." since Rory mentioned the idea of high-end, upscale...

open air hotels / hotel industry/provision

This might not be camping and caravans and "hôtellerie" covers catering as well as accommodation.

"Would You Stay in This Open Air Hotel in the Swiss Alps?
... The open-air hotel consists of a double bed, a couple of lamps and no toilet (the nearest one is a five-minute walk away)."

Apologies for omitting the hyphen: open-air hotels ...
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : All 3 of your refs. are too-literally translated source texts — unless they are trying to be humorous!

One does wonder what happens when it rains.
neutral AllegroTrans : Despite your suggestion being used, I don't think it's an industry term, just blurb
