Mr Ramesh Bhatt has proposed to give the meaning in parenthesis when first used but has not given any meaning of this term.

While agreeing to him that transliteration of this term is the best option, I have given the possible meaniings, if required to be used for the first time.

agree Ramesh Bhatt : Well, I thought there wasn't any need to give the meaning. The asker is a doctor of Economics; I presumed he himself knew the meaning very well, and needed not any help in that. I fully appreciate that. Regards!

Thanks, Janab Bhatt Sb, You may be right in your presumption but you'll appreciate that it might not always be possible that an economist is also as acquainted with Urdu as he/she is with economics, Regards.

لینئر پروگرامنگ/لینئر پروگرام/

As it is, there isn't any established technical term for "Linear Programming" in Urdu. To coin a new Urdu term signifying the meaning won't be feasible, for it will become a complex term, and for the better part part unable to convey the meaning. The best option therefore is the transliteration, and when it is used, its meaning/explanation should be given in parenthesis when used first. Thereafter there is no need of giving the meaning or explanation again.

خط مستقیم پر بنایا ہوا پروگرام/خط مستقیم پر چل رہا پروگرام or any of its varients. Linear basically signifies "in a straight line" and the algebric equation is of the first degree in the variables x, y, z, etc. A curved line isn't linear, circle, parabole, ellipse, hyperbola, sphere, ovaloid, etc., aren't linear. Their algebraic equations aren't of the first degree. In economics the variables differ but linearity, etc., have the same meaning and the same type of equations. Hence مستقیم is of necessity to be added while explaining the the term.

Thanks! Glad to see you back on board after a long time.
agree Irshad Muhammad : Transliteration would be fine as the translation of the term hasn't been seen in the practicle use, the reader may be confused, though the relevant translation could be use in the brackets for the first time.
