Carteira de Trabalho Algo que não existe nos EUA ou na Inglaterra, por exemplo. Uma boa adaptação seria mesmo Employment Booklet ou mesmo working papers.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I should say your proposal is the one which best depicts the document's purport, as neither in the US or in the Uk you got anythining along similar lines; employment booklet could be an altermnative too, right? Thanks."

social security number

In the US context (don´t know how it works in the UK), there is no such thing as a "carteira profissional ou de trabalho," which is a document similiar to a passport in format where an employer registers a formally hired worker in Brazil. The social security number is what allows people to work in the US and it would be the equivalent there. You would have to include an explaining note I would say. If the sentence is something like "trabalhador com carteira de trabalho ou profissional assinada," you could use the translation "formally hired worker."
