Spanish term

como lo fuera en su momento

Spanish to English Social Sciences Philosophy Incommunication in Political Discourse

Thanks in advance for all ideas :-)

did at various moments/points in history (see below)

I would re-write the order thus:

"There is not necessarily an objectiveness which would make communication inevitable, in the way that God, Nature or Reason did at various moments/points in history."

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "thanks so much to everyone for your help. I was still unable to understand the use of "fuera" so I consulted the writer and she says it is short for "fuera esa objetividad la que fuera", then she goes on to explain: "(EJEMPLO: DIOS –DESDE EL SIGLO UNO EN LA TRADICIÓN CRISTIANA, LUEGO LA NATURALEZA EN EL RENACIMIENTO HASTA LA ILUSTRACIÓN, LUEGO LA RAZÓN, DESDE LA ILUSTRACIÓN HASTA FINALES DEL SIGLO XIX) IT WAS SOMETHING THAT NOBODY DOUBTED ABOUT. CREYERAN EN UNA COSA O EN OTRA, LO QUE NO SE PONÍA EN DUDA ERA QUE HABÍA UNA OBJETIVIDAD EN EL MUNDO..." Sorry the explanation is much longer than the question!!"

as was once the case with God, Nature and Reason (or alternatives)

one way of putting it...

other alternatives:

as was the case (at different points in time) with God, Nature and Reason
as has been the case (at different points in time) with God, Nature and Reason

as [God, Nature and Reason were] at one point/different moments in the past

"There is no necessary objectivity, as God, Nature or Reason was, at one point/at different moments in the past."

Necessary objectivity is a concept of moral law and philosophy.

Sorry, typo: ...as God, Nature _OR_ Reason...

of the kind represented in their time

So the sentence would go something like:

There is no necessary objectivity - of the kind represented in their time by God, Nature or Reason - that makes communication inevitable.

I can think of several other ways of putting it, but I am not in the mood to torment myself and think this one works.

Hope you agree, Deborah.

Simpler version, closer to the original:

There is no necessary objectivity, as represented in their time by God, Nature or Reason, that makes communication inevitable.

What about "in their day"? A bit journalistic, maybe, not right for the context?
