Source text - Portuguese No Brasil um estudo multicêntrico realizado em 9 capitais mostrou uma prevalência de 7,6% de DM 2 entre indivíduos com 30 a 69 anos de idade e de 17,4% no grupo etário entre 60 – 69 anos. O diabetes tipo I corresponde a 5 – 10% do montante1.
A vasta maioria dos pacientes com DM 2 é obesa. A base das alterações patológicas que determinam o DM 2 é a associação entre a resistência insulínica (RI) aumentada, causada ou não pela obesidade, e uma célula beta geneticamente limitada na sua capacidade de produzir insulina em quantidade suficiente para sobrepor à RI, com conseqüente hiperglicemia2. A deficiência de secreção e ação insulínica que determina o DM 2 está presente muitos anos antes do seu diagnóstico3. Entretanto, o DM 2 existe em pacientes que não são obesos. Nesses, a RI ainda pode estar presente através de diferentes mecanismos como dieta rica em gordura4, reduzida atividade física5, aumento do acúmulo visceral de tecido gorduroso6, cigarro7, gravidez8 e medicamentos9. Existem ainda circunstâncias nas quais o DM 2 desenvolve-se em indivíduos não obesos na ausência de RI10. Assim, pelo menos em alguns pacientes, a RI não é essencial para o desenvolvimento do diabetes tipo 211.

In Brazil, a multicenter study carried out in 9 capital cities showed a prevalence of 7.6% of DM-2 among individuals between 30 and 69 years of age and of 17.4% in the age group between 60 and 69 years. Type 1 diabetes corresponds to 5-10% of the total.1
The vast majority of patients with type 2 diabetes are obese. The base of the pathological changes that determine DM-2 is the association between an increased insulin resistance (IR), whether caused by obesity or not, and a beta cell with a genetically limited ability to produce insulin in an amount sufficient to overcome the IR, with a consequent hyperglycemia.2 The impairment of insulin secretion and action that determines DM-2 is present many years before its diagnosis.3 However, DM-2 also exists in patients who are not obese. In these patients, the IR can still be present due to different mechanisms such as a diet rich in fat,4 reduced physical activity,5 an increase in the visceral accumulation of fat tissue,6 smoking,7 pregnancy,8 and medicines.9 There are also circumstances in which DM-2 develops in non-obese individuals without IR.10 In this way, at least in some patients, IR is not essential for the development of type 2 diabetes.11

Hotel Description (including areas audited)
This large resort covers approximately 30 acres and has 247 rooms. Conferencing facilities are also provided. The resort has a main kitchen servicing the buffet and a la carte dining area near to the main pool. There are also three other smaller kitchens, at the snack bar, a lunchtime restaurant (which was closed at the time of the visit) and the small ‘X’ Restaurant. There is a juice bar in the gymnasium area. The resort offers a huge range of facilities, including gym, pilates, sauna, massage, beauty treatments, sea water pool, nursery, child entertainment park and offers activities such as scuba diving and other water sports. A Food and Beverage Manager and a Nutritionist are employed at the resort.
