Powwow: London - United Kingdom

Dear London translators and interpreters, the new year is always a good time for resolutions, and mine is to get out there, mingle and meet more representatives of my profession, so I thought it's time for a new London Powwow! I know our last organiser Katharina set high standards, so if you have any suggestions about a venue, topic etc., please do get in touch. I know our last organiser Katharina set high standards, so if you have any suggestions about a venue, topic etc., please do get in touch. If enough people sign up over the next week or so, I will look into a venue, possibly the same pub we used to go to, as it was nice and central. So look out for updates and do commit to a more social 2010! I'm looking forward to seeing you soon, best wishes, Kerstin ▲ Collapse | | | Powwow venue | Jan 19, 2010 |
Dear colleagues, I'm glad to see so much interest in this Powwow! It turns out that the pub we used to go to started charging for their function room, so I phoned around a bit and it seems to be quite a challenge to find a pub in a central location with a function room free of charge. I did however find a lovely place very close to Warwick Avenue (3 min walk) on the Bakerloo line and to Paddington (15 min walk along the beautiful canal in Little Venice). Th... I did however find a lovely place very close to Warwick Avenue (3 min walk) on the Bakerloo line and to Paddington (15 min walk along the beautiful canal in Little Venice). The function room is small-ish but very cozy and the staff very friendly, so I hope it will do for our first meeting: The Warwick Castle 6 Warwick Place London W9 2PX Telephone: 020 7266 0921 Directions: http://www.capitalpubcompany.com/the-warwick-castle/get-here.aspx If anyone knows of a better place, do let me know. I hope this tube journey doesn't put anyone off, it's really very easy to reach and a much more pleasant walk than through crowded Soho or Covent Garden on a Saturday afternoon anyway! I booked the room from 3-6pm on Saturday, 30 January, and suggest we make this powwow a brainstorming about future topics that people might be interested in. I will bring my conference transcript from the recent BDÜ conference in Berlin ("Translating into the future") for possible ideas. I hope these arrangements will suit everyone and to see you all out in force next week! Best wishes, Kerstin ▲ Collapse | | | Kerstin & Oliver: Alternative venue for future meetings | Jan 22, 2010 |

Wow, that's just down the road from me, but I've never actually been in there! Funny that, you grow up somewhere and yet there's places you've never been into. Maybe I should slip in there tomorrow for a half of ale between work sessions and make a report @ Katharina - how's life as a mum? | | | | London Powwow | Jan 30, 2010 |
Hi! Sorry I couldn't make it today. I hope you enjoyed meeting up and had a great afternoon. I'll try to come next time if I'm around. Best wishes, Jaquelina | | | Thank you Kerstin | Jan 31, 2010 |
