I might be interested in some kind of training course, were I to be offered one. As long as it's nothing to do with shoehorning AI or ChatGPT into an already long-suffering translation "industry"…

I never seem to manage to get round to it. I am usually too busy working and when I’m not the last thing I want to do is training. I do read plenty of articles and books and use it all to enhance my translation and business skills further. Some large translation projects I have been doing require me to update and refresh my knowledge about specific topics and I have been studying these informally on my own, mainly through books and published documents: agreements, conventions, etc. Besides that (as I said on yesterday’s poll), I attended a summer course at Nova University in Lisbon on the formation of neologisms in modern Portuguese. Anyway, nothing surpasses hands-on experience, in my opinion.Collapse

After more than 25 years of translation I don't really think I need any more training. I'm learning plenty every day though, since I get to translate all sorts of interesting stuff.

Seems to be more common than I thought! May 5, 2023

I've been translating since my first graduation, around 16 years ago. Living in my source language countries (first Barcelona, now in Munich) and translating nearly every working day - isn't that enough training?!

Probably won’t be needed in my translation career, but who knows, I might need to do the Heimlich manoeuvre on someone in the coffee shop I now practically live in while the AI does my work for me.

Never May 5, 2023

I've been translating for around 40 years and have never had any "training" apart from a touch typing course when I was still at university.
The translation lessons at university focussed on literary subjects, not really a preparation for the real world.
