Could anyone possibly translate the characters on this box?
Or is there a good source for finding out how to find the appropriate
characters and put them on the computer for translation? I know that
online translations aren't always the most correct though.

Also, has anyone tried learning Japanese through Pimsleur? What would
be a recommended source for being able to speak some of the language?

I'm wanting to vacation there with my wife and want to learn to speak
enough to be able to understand some of what people are saying and
progress from there.

I would really appreciate any help. Thanks

"Flower pot" Apr 15, 2014

Hi.
On the right side, I read 'Kabin' which means 'flower pot'. It is written in bigger characters and indicates that this is the title.
Left lower side, I am not totally sure how to pronounce it (Chinese characters often have multiple ways to pronounce), maybe Komutsu-you, probably a name of ceramic manufacturer from Kyushu region, namely of Arita-yaki ceramics. It seems to be written on the lid of a box, which probably contained the flower pot in question. This type of inscription

This type of inscription on a box is called 'Hakogaki (literally meaning 'written on a box') and its purpose is to authenticate the content.

As for your second question, sorry I cannot be of help, but I hope you will get some useful replies and that you enjoy your vacation in Japan.
