I have been a Proz member for twenty years. Since about a year, I have to log in every time instead of staying logged in as it was before. Now, since a few weeks, I have to prove each time that I'm an intelligent human being by picking out pictures of bicycles, traffic lights, cross-walks, or whatever before being granted the privilege of logging in. Is that really necessary? Am I wrong to find that insulting?

Don't think it's intentional but it's certainly not normal Sep 15, 2020

I think you should report this to the site staff. I doubt if anyone is intentionally doubting you but I understand your annoyance and anger. Websites can have really weird behaviour.

The same here Sep 15, 2020

I was faced with that (new) situation for a few times.
When I run my antivirus and all the passwords are cleaned, I have to login and to prove I am not an "alien" I have to follow those same annoying steps.
It can be insulting, because I feel I went back to my childhood every time I need to pick the right picture concerned... I feel like a child playing with a brain-teaser.
Can we just know the reason for applying this tight control? Is it necessary?
Many thanks, Proz!

Haven't experienced it yet (thank god), but Proz is changing (new business model?). Like all those advertisements for example in between so many threads (actually see under this thread).

Maybe they don't like your photo? (joke!)

I have had to do the same for the last couple of weeks. This can’t be necessary since I’ve been logging in for years without having to play this “game”.

Having a similar problem in general Sep 15, 2020

Off an on I've been getting a message "Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network. This page checks to see if it's really you sending the requests, and not a robot", followed by a CAPTCHA verification page with images.

I've assumed that it's a browser (Firefox) problem, or somehow related to the VPN I've been using. My antivirus definitions are up-to-date, so a virus probably isn't the cause.

Not just me Sep 15, 2020

Good to know it isn't just me. I submitted a support request and received the usual answer: blame the victim, in this case my browser. I have used Firefox as long as I have owned a computer. It has actually saved my proz login and cookies, so that can't be the problem.

Please, if you have experienced the same thing, submit a support request, so the staff gets the message that there is a problem on this website.

Problem solved: I need a new photo. Thanks for the suggestion!

If it's any consolation to you Sep 17, 2020

in one browser (and only in that one) in one of my computers I can't log in AT ALL - I don't even get to see silly pictures to chose from. Every time I just get sent back to the login page. Couldn't figure out which setting was wrong - gave up at the end.

On the same computer in another browser I can stay logged-in in Proz for months - no problems.

On other computers - no problems staying logged-in for ages - in any browser.

Maybe a setting that changed when you updated your browser, maybe the result of "improvement" in the Proz site code - difficult to know.

disabling Adguard helped me Dec 12, 2020

I've had the same problem, and just solved it by disabling Adguard for this site.
I'm using Firefox.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Monique

Thanks for the suggestion, Monique, but that didn't work for me. I think I'm going to be stuck with this - it's kind of like being frisked at the airport.
