Uvnitř srdce funguje tzv. nitrosrdeční převodní systém, který zajišťuje synchronizované stahy síní a komor tak, aby byla krev do srdce čerpána z žil a vypuzována do tepen. Tawarova raménka jsou součástí tohoto systému; blok raménka znamená, že se pravá komora, odkud teče krev do plicnice, stahuje „pomaleji“ nebo „opožděněji“.
