Lorsqu'il y a quatre temps par mesure, on appelle cela une mesure à quatre temps. La mesure à quatre temps est également appelée ??

French translation:temps commun
Explanation:
"Common time" is an English, esp. American, term for the 4/4 tempo used in almost all rock songs. I have seen it referred to occasionally in French texts as "temps commun," but they're just translating back from the English -- in other words French didn't come up with a nickname for the 4/4 tempo itself; they're just borrowing the American nickname.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks Eliza, that's why I asked the question. I found the same thing, i.e. a sort of literal translation, but nothing in French music lessons or sites. But thank you very much for the examples and the links, it does help and confirms what I thought. I will wait for others and see what they say. Best, Corinne
