English term or phrase: island-class
The island-class Plaza de Guayama in the middle of it all, once manicured and perfect with its topiary trees, now serve more of a reminder of some past nobody seems to care about than a life which played a pivotal role in shaping the minds of persons such as me.

I'm wondering whether this is a common expression or if it was just created by the author to mean "typical from this island".

gem from this island

Explanation:
Note that island-class refers to boats so I have a hunch this phrasing is incorrect in English. I think what was ment was that the Plaza de Guayama is an ignored gem. What do you think?
