Hi, Althea and Tigranuhi. Your discussion is very interesting. I have experience in translating for several automotive companies (and heavy machinery companies) and I agree with Althea. In addition to all of the arguments set out, I have plenty of official glossaries/termbases approved by these companies and in most of them "frame" is translated as "bastidor", Toyota included (which appears to be the brand in question in this case).

I think we'll have to agree to disagree. Manuals for Scania, Hino, Volvo,
DAF, VW and IVECO trucks all use 'bastidor del chasis' to refer to the chassis frame and I can't believe that all of these major companies would hire translators unfit for the task. Even the Argentinian government refers to 'bastidor del chasis' for the chassis frame in it's regulations for importing vehicles (https://www.argentina.gob.ar/normativa/nacional/decreto_ley-... ). It may well be that we are both correct in that while 'bastidor del chasis' is the term typically used for trucks, 'bastidor' or 'estructura del bastidor' is typically used when referring to cars.

Althea the Spanish translation of Scania mentioned by you https://til.scania.com/w/bwm_0000517_03 is not made by a native speaker of Spanish, sorry but if you read it carefully there are many expressions that don't sound Spanish. So better not to mention here unprofessional translations.

I agree, Tigranuhi, that bastidor and chasis are often used interchangeably. I think some of our disagreement comes from this not necessarily being the case in English. In terms of trucks such as the Hino 500 series http://www.hino-harris.com/pdf/GH Cargo Spec.pdf , the chassis is made up of the chassis frame, axels, wheels and tyres etc. so in these instances, the chassis and chassis frame are not interchangeable terms. However, there is another problem when you have to distinguish between different frames within the whole chassis. For example, you can have a "Bastidor auxiliar" or "bastidor
interior" and a "bastidor del chasis". They are all frames- all 'bastidor' - but two are sub frames and one is the chassis frame. They fit together in order to strengthen the chassis. So, I agree that the terms 'bastidador' and 'chasis' are normally interchangeable but with trucks such as Hino or Scania this isn't the case in their documentation and the chassis frame is referred to as "bastidor del chasis" .

Althea, in Spanish vehicle frame or chasis frame is "estructura del bastidor".
there is no need to put chasis as the Spanish word for it is bastidor.
The cited example was just to show the expression in Spanish, after I added the wikipedia explanation, You can find a lot of examples in Internet searching: estructura del bastidor de vehiculo, as shown below and see that always appear chasis frame.

The 'estructura del bastidor' explaination from the elmundo website is not about the chassis frame but the frame of a Honda car body. See "Carrocería con Ingeniería de Compatibilidad Avanzada (ACE®)" at https://www.honda.mx/avanzamos/tecnologias-honda/ . It states, "Uno de los sistemas de seguridad pasiva más innovadores de Honda es la estructura de la Carrocería de Ingeniería de Compatibilidad Avanzada ACE®, un diseño exclusivo que utiliza una red de estructuras de bastidor delantero para absorber y desviar la energía de una colisión frontal." and shows you pictures. It's not about the wikipedia note added today. I agree that the wikipedia reference is about the frame that makes up part of a rolling chassis, and I agree that the expression is sometimes used to mean the chassis frame but 'estructura del bastidor' can mean other frame structures too, not just a chassis frame has been demostrated in the Honda promotional material.
