English term or phrase: Capillary Test
The testing consists of a general visual inspection particularly for potential deformations,
cracks, breakages and damages which suggest an overload. Attention must also be paid
to heavy wear and corrosion damages. In order to prevent corrosion, we recommend to
keep the mobile components clean and oil them if required. Moreover, a visual inspection
of the welded joints should be conducted. In case of irregularities on the welded joints, a
MT - (Magnetic Leakage Flux Test) or a PT - (Capillary Test) testing method should be
applied.

Reference: Líquidos penetrantes (PT)

Reference information:

"Two very basic nondestructive testing methods, magnetic particle testing (MT) and liquid penetrant testing (PT), can be useful in identifying manufactured defects in components before they go into service where they could fail and identifying service related defects that arise from damage in use...This [PT] can be a fast and effective way to evaluate a weld repair for surface cracks or to evaluate machine components for fatigue cracks open to the surface. "Dye penetrant inspection (DP), also called liquid penetrate inspection (LPI) or penetrant testing (PT), is a widely applied and low-cost inspection method used to check surface-breaking defects in all non-porous materials (metals, plastics, or ceramics)...DPI [or LPI or PT] is based upon capillary action, where low surface tension fluid penetrates into clean and dry surface-breaking discontinuities. Penetrant may be applied to the test component by dipping, spraying, or brushing. After adequate penetration time has been allowed, the excess penetrant is removed and a developer is applied. The developer helps to draw penetrant out of the flaw so that an invisible indication becomes visible to the inspector. Inspection is performed under ultraviolet or white light, depending on the type of dye used - fluorescent or nonfluorescent (visible)."
