English term or phrase: Academic (course)

Explanation:

Academic and applied courses set high expectations for all students. Academic and applied courses differ in the balance between essential concepts and additional material, and in the balance between theory and application.

CORE COURSE OF STUDY

Also called core curriculum, core course of study refers to a series or selection of courses that all students are required to complete before they can move on to the next level in their education or earn a diploma.
