"Kofångare" är en ålderdomlig beteckning för stötfångaren på ett fordon.

I början och mitten av 1800-talet, innan bilens tid, hade tågen sin storhetstid. De tuffade omkring i vilda västern på stäppen där det fanns gott om buffel, kossor och annan boskap. Charles Babbage satte något som liknande en plog framtil på tåget och det kom att kallas för cow-cather. Detta levde sedan vidare och vi kallar det än idag för kofångare. Detta trots att det inte hade något med bilindustrin att göra. Inte ens på engelska säger de cow-cather idag om stötfångaren. - ensakitagettaget
