English term or phrase: half the time
"Half the time his mask was dangling under his chin."
In American English, "half the time" means literally about 50% of the time. However, there seems to be a tendency to translate it into Turkish in ways that literally mean "most of the time" or "usually" (çoğunlukla, çoğu zaman, genelde) which apparently changes the meaning. Maybe "zamanin yarısı" would be closer, but that phrasing doesn't seem to be used much.

Other examples of usage: "Half the time he wasn't paying attention." "Half the time they couldn't answer the questions." "Half the time they're out of black tea." "He could only get it right about half the time." "She showed up late half the time." etc It is most often used when talking or complaining about something undesirable that occurs on roughly 50% of all occasions (or maybe, by way of exaggeration, something that occurs less than 50% of the time, but often enough to be annoying or disruptive). It's a bit on the informal side.

Another English phrase with the same meaning is "as often as not," but it is much less commonly used in American English. I think that phrase is used more in British English.

Turkish translation:sıklıkla
Explanation:
Given the context there is nothing wrong with "çoğunlukla, çoğu zaman, genelde". They work well, but if you're looking for an alternative you could use "sıklıkla" as "half the time" means "fairly often"

agree  Sarper Aman: Daha çok şikâyet bildiren, tasvip edilmeyen durumlarda kullanıldığı için "sıklıkla" veya "sık sık", anlamı karşılıyor bence de. Tureng "bazen" demiş ama bunda olumsuz bir anlam görmüyorum.

Ara sıra

Explanation:
I would prefer to use “ara sıra” which indicates 50% frequency since you cannot exactly guess if it is too frequent or less frequent.

Or “arada sırada” which is another form of it, depends on the context.

zamanın yarısında

Explanation:
This is the literal translation. As an engineer, I prefer to use "zamanın yarısında" which is "half the time."

kah...kah...

Explanation:
"Half the time he wasn't paying attention" cümlesini ele alırsak "Dikkatini kah veriyor kah vermiyordu" olarak çevirebiliriz. "Çayları kah var kah yoktu" da olur. "Maskesi kah çenesinde kah ağzındaydı."
Evet, cümleye fazladan kelime eklememiz gerekiyor ama anlamı bozmadan çevirebiliyoruz bu şekilde.
