N.N.

English translation: Nationaal Nummer (see options below)

Flemish to English translations [Non-PRO]
Automotive / Cars & Trucks / Belgian driving licence
Flemish term or phrase: N.N.
This abbreviation appears in an extract from the criminal records as follows:

"Betreffende: [naam]
Geboortedatum: [datum]
Geboorteplaats: [plaats]
Wonende te: [plaats]
N.N.: _______________"

whereby the underlining represents a blank or no entry. Both Van Dale and Van den End give "Name unknown" for this abbreviation, but I'm not sure that makes sense within the given context. I'd appreciate prompt feedback from my Belgian colleagues.

R.

English translation:Nationaal Nummer (see options below)
Explanation:
1st instincts.

Dubs as:

National Identification Number
National ID Number
Alien Registration Number
Also is referred to as the "National Number", which I think is a bit too literal... but you can decide.

"Een inschrijving in het rijksregister heeft tot gevolg dat aan een vreemdeling een rijksregisternummer wordt toegekend. Dat nummer staat op sommige (verblijfs)documenten vermeld als 'N.N.' ( nationaal nummer). "

"In Belgium every citizen has a National Number, which is created by using the citizen's date of birth (encoded in six digits), followed by a serial number (three digits) and a checksum (two digits). The serial number is used so that men get the odd numbers, while women get the even numbers; thus, there can be only 500 men or women on each day.

The national number is unique to each person and in that capacity used by most government institutions; "

agree  writeaway: sigh. even being a native NL Dutch speaker does not mean that one automatically knows Belgian Dutch. But no one wants to admit it so saying 'no' to a Belgian text is never an option, it seems
