This is on a maintenance sheet for a universal joint:

Remplacer le joint de cardan et la manchette de cardan:
Desserrer les serre-manchettes du joint de cardan.
Chasser la goupille de l'entre-cardan puis la rebuter.
Chasser la goupille de l'arbre d'entrée du renvoi parallèle à engrenages puis la rebuter.
Extraire le joint de cardan équipé de sa manchette de cardan puis les rebuter.
Graisser un joint de cardan neuf.
Remplir de graisse une manchette de cardan neuve.
Mettre en place un joint de cardan neuf dans une manchette de cardan neuve.
Assembler la partie inférieure du joint de cardan à l'arbre d'entrée du renvoi parallèle à engrenages au moyen d'une goupille neuve.
Assembler la partie supérieure du joint de cardan à l'entre-cardan au moyen d'une goupille neuve.
Serrer les serre-manchettes du joint de cardan (3).

I suspect this is actually a 'lay shaft', but it's hard to be sure without more description.
In EN, it's almost certainly not necessary to specify the 'gear-driven' element at all.
