French term or phrase: Traces manufacturées
Hi all,

This is the name of an expert unit within a forensic science department which analyses tool marks that are left behind following a burglary.

"Manufactured marks" seems very unnatural to me, I was toying with "machined marks" but that would normally be for "traces usinées"...

If anyone can shed a bit of light for me, I'd be very grateful!

Here's the context if it helps:

tool marks
Explanation:
Rokotas is right. But tool marks IS the term for the marks left behind by the tools used in a burglary. I came upon this in a translation some time ago.

Glad to have helped.

The UK examples I found spell it as 2 words: tool mark, the US examples as 1: toolmark

agree  philgoddard: This suggests that it's broader than "traces d'outils". But I don't understand the reference to "lampes à incandescence".
