I think you mean "when", not "where". I read your sentence as "et c'est là que / à ce moment-là que..", which means "and that's when people began to use "or sauvage" (gold with a natural and rough finish, apparently). Still according to my reference, we know this gold can be "matt" (not shiny) or "vif poli" (highly/brightly polished) while being crafted.

The confusion was because I thought you were quoting your source text when, in fact, it now seems you were quoting your own translation with "or sauvage" inserted after your translation (or mistranslation) of that as "yellow gold". That made it seem that your source text was in English and that it included the French term in brackets.

Context is best given by quoting the source text, not the Asker's translation of it.

There's a problem with the extract you quote from your source text. This bit is, actually, nonsense: "here is where we started to see the use of yellow gold (or sauvage)". Your text implies that "or sauvage" simply means "yellow gold", but Kevin's reference shows that it doesn't simply mean that. Though other colours of gold have been popular and fashionable at different periods, yellow has always been a widely used colour and the term "yellow gold" is commonly used to cover all that isn't white gold or rose gold.
