Japanese term or phrase: なじむ色という形で
A programmer is talking about how the original design for a video game character featured clothing that was darker than in the final game. (The game environments are also dark.) Then:

「キャラクターと背景を別々に進めて、合わせた時になじむ色という形で、もうちょっと明るい色の方がいいだろうということで今の服装に変えました。」

It's the なじむ色という形で I don't understand. Is the programmer using the なじむ phrase to say that the character blended in to the background previously, and that's why his costume was changed? Or is the programmer using the なじむphrase to say that she wanted to change him to a color that would be more suitable for when the characters and environments were brought together?

Thanks for any help.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Yes, I can look the word up in the dictionary. I was concerned more about whether the word applied to before the change or after.

disagree  Micheru: It seems that the word applies to before the change, because it is talking about when they (character and scenery) were first put together, instead of the brighter-clothed finished product.
