As Craig mentions, subsumption is very unusual as a noun in BrE at least, except for opaque theories in jurisprudence. What Craig doesn't mention is that the verbal forms of subsumed or subsuming, for instance of facts into the case in point, are far commoner / more common for us 'commoners'.

Great! As far as I read you, it would be smart to explain instead of just saying "narrowing" though. Seems subsumption is quite unusual in British (and it's quite rare in Norwegian too). Legalese!
