Portuguese term or phrase: Ministério da Administração Interna (MAI) [for instance]
I've translated a document which details the interactions between several Portuguese governmental organizations; quite a lot of them, actually. My question is, when I translate "Ministério da Administração Interna (MAI)" into Ministry of Internal Administration, should the acronym be the same or be updated accordingly, e.g. (MIA). It seems to me this makes the most sense, since the purpose of these acronyms is to avoid repetition and reading the same name over and over again throughout the document; if the acronym doesn't relate to the name we're supposed to decode from it, it's going to be very hard remembering a bunch of them.

Take this one, for example: INE (Instituto Nacional de Estatística) and its offical English name, Statistics Portugal. If further down the document, I read about "INE", I probably won't remember that means Statistics Portugal. Anyway, I'm only explaining all this because what makes most sense to me actually goes against what I've been told and read on the subject.

Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Explanation:
Penso que tem duas opções: ou faz condizer o acrónimo com o termo traduzido (MoIA - podendo o "o" ser minúsculo - utilizado por exemplo pelo RU - ou maiúsculo) ou mantém o acrónimo em Português, fazendo uma nota de tradução.
Pessoalmente, prefiro a primeira.
