Final note -- found an instructional PowerPoint presentation (in French) posted to an Algerian Web site, equating hépatoprive to "insuffisance hépatocellulaire." So I'm done.

I have read the sites in Romanian, Russian, and French, all of which EXPLAIN hepatopriv/hépatoprive but fail to provede an English-language DESIGNATION. My assignment -- a LISTING of many diverse hepatic dysfunction & diseases -- is quite hostile to explanations -- it's a technical medical document already displaying several other explicitly named liver problems. Sorry. I've already spent hours and hours reading and searching, without a single good English NAME that pops out for this syndrome.

I am far from an expert on this, but it may be something like ”impaired hepatic synthetic function”

Elevations of liver enzymes often reflect damage to the liver or biliary obstruction, whereas an abnormal serum albumin or prothrombin time may be seen in the setting of impaired hepatic synthetic function.

Health warning: I'm no medic, so take my input with a big pinch of salt, but in case no one else happens by this question (I've not seen any medical translators here in RO-EN lately, nor many translators of any kind, come to that...), and since you also work with Russian, have you tried looking up гепатопривный синдром (gepatoprivny sindrom)? You'll find it exists, and several Russian websites give synonyms for it, so you might be able to arrive at a translation by looking up synonymous Russian terms, if you don't have any joy elsewhere.

In particular, more than one website I have just looked at treats that Russian term as synonymous with гепатодепрессивный синдром, and another equates it with the terms синдром печеночно-клеточной недостаточности and синдром малой печеночной недостаточности.

Out of interest, is there any possible Russian linguistic influence on your text? Was it written by a Moldovan, for example?
