neutral  Jack slep: I believe Lake Herring, aka cisco, is an entirely different species and found in the Great Lakes.

  -> Thanks, jack. One Great Lakes freshwater "herring" is Coregonus artedii, omul is Coregonus migratorius. I realize they're different species, but thought that on a menu "freshwater herring" or "freshwater whitefish" might give more of an idea than "omul."
