Trefilov Explanation: Russian dictionary of surnames derives this surname from a canonic male name Tryphyllius. The name originates from ancient Greece (as many Russian names do), from the word triphyllon — “shamrock”, "a plant with three-lobed leaves", in Russian conversational speech it aquired the form of Trefil. Ilov is a typical ending of Russian family-names, meaning initially, as far as I know "a son of a person with the corresponding name" (in our case- son of a person named Trefil Reference: http://slovari.yandex.ru |
