In a text of Castilian Spanish to English, speaking of archaeology, appears "mediodía hispano". I find various examples in Spanish, but not the precise translation.

southern Hispania
Explanation:
It refers to the southern part (mediodía) of the Iberian Peninsula. You could say that, or "southern Iberia", but this evidently refers to Ancient Rome, when this region was the province of Hispania, so I think "southern Hispania" would be suitable; this name is commonly projected back, as it were, to the pre-Roman era. I don't think "southern Spain" would be suitable here, since it refers to both Spain and Portugal, and Spain did not exist as such then.

neutral  JohnMcDove: Agree on "southern". But "Spain" is not exactly the same as "Hispania". Ie. "Spain" does not include "Portugal"... while "Hispania" includes the whole peninsula.

agree  neilmac: I think "meridional" is more widely used nowadays, but I may be mistaken.

  -> Cheers, Neil ;-) // I'm sure you're right

agree  JohnMcDove: Great minds...! :-) / "Meridional" may be more common, but we would have to have stats on this. CREA gives 8 hits for "mediodía francés", 6 for "Mediodía francés" 7 for "Midi francés"..., 2 for "España meridional" 1 for "midi francés"--signifying nothing
