I know that this means divider, but I am wondering if there is a specific meaning here. A text by an Argentine writer describing a performance in an alternative venue in the late 80s. Artists had printed an image of an eye on the skin of members of the audience.

Cientos de ojos nos miraron desde las mamparas mientras hacíamos nuestro show. Quedaban muy bien, pero al cierre los cuidadores no nos permitieron salir hasta que limpiásemos todas esas pupilas cavilantes.
