If you look at the early days of Spanish literature, you will find plenty of "cancioneros". These were collections of songs, put together either at the time, or by later scholars. As such they could also be described as anthologies. But in a broader sense the word refers to the body of popular song that is in existence, and can mean, as in our context and indicated by Jenni, simply popular song itself, as a type of song. It is the body of song from which anyone can draw if they are part of that culture. |
