Spanish term

Horas de hacinamiento

Spanish to English Other Other
Usted podrían ayudarme a traducir la siguiente oración.

" Los pobres pasajeros se sienten amenazados debido a tantas horas de hacinamiento en el avión"

Traduje de este modo: "the poor passengers feel threatened due to many hours of overcrowding."

Contexto: Se refiere a las horas tan largas que pasan a veces los pasajeros de un bueno, las cuales amenanza contra su salud. Los hace verse más cansados y agorados.

Muchas gracias.

due to packed-in conditions, over a period of several hours

Not very literal, but I think it would work.

packed-in passengers

Or, "for hours on end".

hours spent cooped up

Overcrowding is not wrong, but here's a slightly more colloquial version.

Or you could say "hours packed together like sardines".

disagree Barbara Cochran, MFA : People are cooped up in houses or apartments, not on airplanes, for the most part. There are only about 230,000 hits for "cooped up in an airplane, while there are more than 12 million for "cooped up in a house or apt".

Not where I live.
agree David Hollywood : "cooped up" works for me albeit a tad free and agree with Barbara on that point

agree neilmac : "Only" 230,000 hits is enough for me....

Thanks! I see you agreed with "packed in like sardines". That was lifted from my answer.

hours of overcrowding

"The unfortunate/poor passengers feel threatened by so many hours of overcrowding on the plane"
esta sería mi proposición de traducción. el término "overcrowding" es correcto en este caso, unque es usado para referirse a interiores de edificios normalmente.
Example sentence:

abordar con urgencia la cuestión del hacinamiento. - the overcrowding should be addressed as a priority issue.

severe overcrowding in rental units. - hacinamiento severo en las unidades de alquiler.
