Hi All,
I'm translating a text about a multi-service network and would appreciate any assistance translating the above term in the following context. It appears in a section on the Gigabit Passive Optical Network:
Tráfico asimétrico de 2,5Gbps en sentido descendente y 1,25 Gbps en sentido ascendente en la misma fibra.
Many thanks in advance!

download
In telecommunications network services, when you talk about traffic, download it s a accurate definition for the amount of data transferred in an asymmetric bandwith more than the direction of the data

Downstream, as mentioned by philgoddard could be also be ok. I found this link for you to decide, good luck.

Jennifer Levey
: 'download' is correct. 'downstream' is wrong in Asker's context.

: This might be appropriate for (say) an individual downloading a file. But I don't think it fits this context, which is a network outside the home and on the service provider's premises. It's about large amounts of data whizzing back and forth.

It is difficult to decide. I read an article and I think it is download, but I read another one and I think it is downstream

Charles Davis
: Download speed is OK. So is downstream speed.

Thank you Charles. Yes, it is difficult to decide.

downstream
"In a telecommunications network or computer network, downstream refers to data sent from a network service provider to a customer."

Jennifer Levey
: You cannot measure "downstream" in Gbit/s.

Yes you can, and you shouldn't post disagrees without checking your facts. Look at the second sentence here, for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10G-EPON

Clarkalo
: This is definitely the correct term. Here is an example reference: http://www.gartner.com/it-glossary/10g-pon/ (ie. "Asymmetrical 10G-PON [...] provides 10 Gbps downstream and 2.5 Gbps upstream.")

Plenty more where that came from. So what's the problem?
"Service is provided over single mode fiber to an Alcatel-Lucent ONT (optical network terminal) in my basement and it's provisioned at 2.488 Gb/s line rate downstream and 1.244 Gb/s line rate upstream."

I've never seen anyone withdraw a disagree when they're proved wrong, but there's always a first time...
