Hi,

Anybody knows how to view ignored errors again in Crossweb?
It doesn't show them again.

To translate TXT files you need to have 32-bit version of MSWord installed. You can install it additionaly (only MSWord) next to your existing 64-bit MS office.

Thank you, Aurélien, for your suggestion. I have changed the Windows file association so that .txt files are now opened with MS-Word. However, Across still gives me the same error message.

If it works with MS Word, associate the .TXT files with MS Word under Win 11.

I realised that the preview works fine when the source document is a .docx, or .doc.
However, I translate a lot of .txt files that are exported from the end-client's content management system. I do not see a setting for text files in the Across preview settings and I don't have the option of adding file types.
Under Windows 10, my Across 8.7 automatically opened MS Word to preview .txt files. This appears to have changed under Windows 11 and I get the described error message. My Windows 11 default application to open .txt files is Notepad.

Can you think of anything else that I could try?

User settings\Preview\Word 2000-2003
And define MSWord application's executable to be used with document file name "%s"

All,

I just moved my Across Translator Premium Edition v8.7 from my old Windows 10 machine to my new Windows 11 machine. Across itself works fine. However, when I try to create a Target Preview (Tools – Target Preview) of a document that requires MS-Word, I see a message stating that this version of Across does only support the 32-bit version of MS Word. I am now running the 64-bit version of MS Word under Windows 11.
I am using target previews a lot and would be very unhappy if this would no longer work.

Does anyone know a solution or workaround?

Hello,

I frequently receive Across-Packages from a Client. I then assign them to colleagues (linguists).
The client has the master server, while I work on a trusted server. In this constellation I have the following doubts:

1. is there a way for me to run pretranslation on packages sent by the client? Pretranslation is usually done by the client. However, he wants us to machine translate with our own customized engine the segments without matches. So we need to be able to pretranslate its package by adding MT only where needed.

2. is there a way for me to export the entire TM of the client? The client manages the TM on its master server but we need to have a look at the cpntent of the TM.

Don't worry, I've been working with Across for a long time, but not for Across.

What you're saying here is what I've been thinking from the bigenning : your customer wants something, but leaves you to work offline, on your own. If you reread this page carefully [url removed] #data/modesoftheac.html , you'll understand that working in this mode is very limited. It's normal that it doesn't work the way you want it to. Further explanation is beyond the scope of this answer.

Your customer should know how to handle what needed (a TM with the translation) by giving you what you need to work offline, with a "task". You'll then discover that this tool can be the good one for you.

In conclusion, Across is not based on the same concept as most other tools. That's what confuses many, but thinking in terms of databases rather than files is admittedly a bit unusual.

I wish you all the best in your future endeavors and, above all, a successful apprenticeship if you are to continue in this direction, which I think you deserve.

Indeed there seems to be a serious misunderstanding. All I was doing is processing a simple, 300 word, file where I followed the wizards and instructions in the manual and every time I try something that is absolutely required to check the functionality, either nothing happens or I get a pop-up telling me that I need to upgrade to the premium version. When the software is presented as fully functional, I simply expect it to work and after almost 40 years in this business, I think I have a reasonable understanding of what is supposed to happen. I am not blaming the tool because it is not possible to validate the functionality this way. I am however blaming the marketing.
I have obviously also checked experiences of other users and they seem to agree that this is by far the worst CAT-tool ever. I will leave it that that unless somebody comes up with useful information.
BTW: do you work for Across?

I think we just have a huge misunderstanding because you didn't really say what you did and I don't have a crystal ball to guess.
What I can say for sure is that MTPE and TM import/export and tons of other things are possible with almost every translation tool, but you have to learn it, no matter if it is Across, DejaVu or Trados. It is much easier to blame a tool than to learn.

Thanks, I read that but it doesn't really answer my problem.

There was no client

So, I think this tool is not for me. My clients want the TM with the processed translations. I can not tell them that they are safely stored in a place where even I can not get to.

You can learn that the tool does not work with files, but has everything (including TM and TB) integrated and exchanges data directly with the client's server.
You can find that there are states of segments and that you have to set them to finalise a translation before delivery.
And if the preview does nothing, it seems to have been disabled by the client (for some reason).

There is more information in the full manual, but I doubt it will help you in the short term.

Hi there,
beginners question. I have looked at Across many years ago and decided that is was not really a contender for the SDLX software I was using at the time. Now, a new client wants me to use it for MPTE so I downloaded the translators edition V8, advertised as "Full-fledged translation environment with professional functions for freelancers". Unfortunately, it is not or I made some serious mistakes.
- it is not possible to preview, the button simply doesn't do anything
- it is not possible to finalize a translation so I can't even see the end result.
- I can not find where the files go, there is no way to select where to store the project files, there is no TM and no TB.

Can anybody tell me what I did wrong or are my expectations somewhat on the higher side.
PS: I have checked the docs and the help, no answers

The website acrosscenter.com has nothing to do with crossWeb or Across Language Server or any translation product, but is the website of a company that sells software for sharing keyboard and mouse between different devices. You can learn about it without reading, just by watching the animation on the first page of the website: [url removed]

2. Your complaints about performance, about the lack of crossWeb documentation on acrosscenter.com (please remember, it is a wrong website), about unclear instructions - you need to forward them to your LSP customer (like e.g. in the documentation it is Synergium.eu), who actually hosts an instance of the software you are using.

I found the solution myself! :-)
I made a new memory in Trados Studio, imported the Across tmx file. Then I made a Studio tmx export file from the Trados studio TM and imported this tmx in Across. Could you believe it? Now it works!!!

Hello colleagues,

I have an urgent problem with across.
Last week I received a cwu file from a client.
I translated it with across.
I sent back a cru file to the client (with same file name as cwu file). Now the client can't import this cru file. Strange, because the second cru file worked fine. Anyway, the client wasn't able to import this file. For security reasons I made a tmx import to be sure to have saved my translation.
Now the client sent me a new cap file and new login and the same (untranslated) cwu file.
I opened the cwu file as usual in Across (with new login) and opened crosstank in order to import the tmx file. All looked fine, all segments had been imported. Then I wanted to start the translation, but Across doesn't give me any 100% matches. Across seems not to be able te recognize the matches from the imported tmx file.

Does anyone have any clue as to what I might have done wrong?

You can upload your current work results to the server without completing tasks and then download them on another computer. No manager activity is required.
You cannot work on two computers for the same client at the same time, so it is necessary to confirm that you have uploaded intermediate results and moved your activity to another computer.

I am forced to use this software by a large translation agency. I have to connect to the client's Across server and download my projects into my local application. I recently upgraded to Across Premium so I could install an edition on my laptop and continue working elsewhere if needed. After completing the installation, I now discover, my work is not synchronised on the server. I can download the files again, but they are simply the untranslated files. After a bit of searching, it seems there is no simple way of continuing where you left off on a second PC. Wtaf. Please, someone tell me there is a way without having to upload to the server and then ask the project manager to release the files again. Surely not? Why can't you just download some sort of xliff file like in Trados?? Woe is me.

In the keyboard shortcut section of the manual ( [url removed] #data/keyboardshor_2.html ), we can see the combination Ctrl+Shift+Insert for inserting the next placeable/tag, which comes handy when there are more than 9 tags in the source and you don't want to take your fingers off the keyboard.
