Dear all,

I translate EN>RU, and use many glossaries, my CAT tool is Wordfast classic which has an opportunity to:
a) check the presence of the target term in the translation;
b) accommodate a great variety of Russian word forms in one glossary entry
e.g.
EN:
wardrobe
wardrobes
RU:
гардероб
гардероба
гардеробу
гардеробом
...
which are all fit into a single entry = wardrobe* -- гардероб*
where anything goes after the asterisk.

I did honestly try to read the manuals, but lost hope of finding the answer, I suspect it is there somewhere.

Dear all,

I have a problem regarding the creation of a TM as well as a TDB.

When i open a word document to be translated, I go to :

- File.
- Launch start assistant.
- Do you want to translate this document with the help of Metatexis ? YES
- A dialog box appears saying "Metatexis-error" "Error creating database".
- I have to click six times on "OK" with same message and then the " start assistant" appears.
- At step 3, i select the TM by default which has been created "TM.mxtm" but it says "The selected file is not a
Metatexis database" " Please select Metatexis database, or create a new one".
- When I create a new one, I give a name to the new MT and it says "Error creating database".

I would appreciate any feedback on this issue as soon as possible.

PS :
Should I uninstall metatexis and re-install it ?
Is this problem connected to the fact that I'm using Windows 10 with parallel ?
Would using a bootcamp partition contribute to solve the problem ?

As recommended by Hermann Bruns I’m using Windows 64 as well as a 64-bit edition of Office (Microsoft Office 365) and there are no additional add-on in Word.

Hi all,

Metatexis stops working when I try to use it for text inside content controls in Word documents - i get an ERROR 4605

It's being doing this for the last 6 years or so. What a pain...

Any idea on how to fix/circumvent this (apart from copying the text into a document with no content controls - which is what I have been doing)?

I've been using MetaTexis for over three years now and not even once had any problems with it. It has really changed my life. I translate a lot of Excel and Power point files with it and unlike what said by Elena Ruiz my computer runs just as fast as with Word files.
I find this tool very easy to use, very efficient and really helpful. I've tried other CAT tools before buying this one and I find MetaTexis the best of all.

I bought Metatexis some months ago and for me it's been a waste of money. Importing Excel files is disastrous, no matter how small they are, it takes centuries to import. When it's finally done, you think you are ready to translate, want to run a statistics log with a TM and it takes again so long (about 20 minutes). In the meanwhile I tried to work on, but functions like copy/paste are "occupied" by Metatexis, so you cannot use them on another program. OK, then, let's check my mail and let Metatexis do its job. But nope, Metatexis pisses me off trying to stay at the front of the screen.

OK, I'm now ready to work. I write the first sentence, I hit the keys to move on and again, it takes really really too long to jump to the next translatable sentence. I'm faster writing it down with a pen. And for the record, my PC is just one year old, so fast enough.

I haven't used it with Word, and I read good critics when working Word files, but come on, every free software can manage Word files. I bought the NET/Office version to handle professional Excel and complicated files.

At this moment I'm truly dissapointed, I hope it works well for you.

In your MetaTexis menu, you should have a function Navigation, from where a menu opens where you can scroll to show/hide text.

I work since february this year with it and all my problems were solved in a minimum time.

Dear all,

I am working on a translation using metataxis in MS word, have been on it for 2 days now. All of a sudden some stupid function turns on and next to my translated text, the base text appears (all in red brackets).
I spent half a day trying to figure out how to get it back, but no use! I tried reading the help file - found nothing, I wrote to tech support no reply as yet. Searching through the functions also proved useless.

I can not submit the file in the state it is now, can anyone advise how to reverse this please!

I have a nearing deadline which I might miss because of this.

I am running a trial version of Metatexis 3.17

Hello,

I have been using MetaTexis for two years now and I am very happy with it.

I had been using Trados for 8 years before and when suddenly it would not work any more, I got no support at all from the Editor of Trados. I was only proposed to purchase a new (and indeed very expensive) version of Trados. This is what I call a zombie-CRM.

On the opposite, the support I get from M. Hermann Bruns (the author and real life boss) is far beyond reproach (less that 24 h). Last but not least, the program is much cheaper as well.

Has anyone imported Framemaker files into MetaTexis?

When I import FM files, MetaTexis doesn't recognize them unless they're in .mfi format. Even then, there are no translatable segments.

Hi David,

I have used MetaTexis for years now and am very happy with it. I use it mainly for Word documents, also PPT files.

The reasons I like it are: a) it's very easy to use (as in "even I can do it"), b) I never had the problem, which users of another famous CAT tool often experience, of completing a 20,000 word translation and then the software not being able to produce a clean file, c) their support system is outstanding (Yahoo group, answers include prompt feedback from Hermann, the creator the MetaTexis), d) the price is very convenient.

Also note that you can export the TM in .tmx format and import into another CAT tool.

I suggest you give the Lite (free) version a try to see if it meets your needs.

Hello

I hope somebody can help me with this.

I use Metatexis NET/Office 3 together with Office 2010, 32-bit. After importing a PowerPoint-file the text boxes of the segments turn dark blue, which makes the text rather difficult to read. Changing the segment colours in the Metatexis options doesn' t help. I can change the text colour globally in Word, but that messes up the formatting of the PPT. Anyone knows what's going on?

Hi to everybody, and a happy New Year,

I hope you can help me with the following dilemma. I have been testing Wordfast Pro and MetaTexis, in order to see which of these tools better suits my needs as a freelance translator. I gained the insight that MetaTexis has difficulty translating diagrams, but seems to cope effortlessly with a lot of file types, breaking footnotes and comments into separate sections. I haven’t attempted some file types with this tool yet though, so reserving judgement.

I successfully translated Word documents with and without diagrams, footnotes etc, and I also managed to translate a PDF without any difficulty in Wordfast Pro. I’m confused, however, by how Wordfast Pro translates Excel spreadsheets, because my attempts did successfully add an Excel spreadsheet to Wordfast Pro, but it seemed to take every line as a new segment rather than seeing each text box as a whole. Therefore, text strings which belonged together for comprehension purposes were separated by other data, making the translation and comprehension of terms complicated or prone to error. This set of errors will be down to my inexperience with the tools, as I’m sure far more experienced users will know how to set up the preferences to cope with this. When you’re as computer-illiterate as I am, written instructions can easily be muddled, which is where I think most of my problems lie.

I’d like to ask which file formats are better supported by which of the two given CAT tools, and also ask your opinions as to which is better and why.

Hi there,

I am trying to translate a Word document which contains a diagram within the body of the 'active document area'. Obviously MetaTexis deals with the diagram in a separate text area to the main text, as with footnotes etc, but every time the program asks me if I want to go to the next document area, and I click yes, it reverts every time back to the start of the 'active document area', effectively leaving the diagram untranslated.

I have been trying this several times in a row, and still no success. Can anyone help me with it?

MetaTexis for Word, like almost all other Word add-ins, does not run in the 64-bit edition of Word 2010. You need to install the 32-bit edition of Word 2010, if you intend to run add-ins, for, almost all Word add-ins were developed in 32-bit mode.

1) You need to convert the Trados TM to the exchange format, i.e. TMX. Open your TM in Trados Workbench and export it to .TMX.

2) Create a new empty Metatexis TM and import the TMX file into it.

Hi everybody,

I have Office 2010 and have just downloaded the new, trial version Metatexis.

The client provided me with a rar TM which contained 5 files with the following extensions: IIX, MDF, MTF, MWF, TMW. I don't know what those extensions are, but I assume they are all Trados related somehow. I'm following the video tutorial on metatexis.com, but the problem is that Metatexis doesn't recognize any of these extensions, and I can't seem to find a way to attach the client's TM.

I would really appreciate a step-by-step instruction how to take those 5 files and turn them into a Metatexis TM. TIA.

I've been using MetaTexis for a couple of months, so I'm not expert either, but this is what I do: I close the segment (alt + end) I don't want/need to translate, go to the next segment/line I want to translate and then open the segment (alt + down)

Hello all,

I'm absolutely new to Metatexis and already have a really silly question: How can I skip a sentence I don't want (or don't need) to translate? In Wordfast I click ALT CTRL DOWN but this doesn't seem to be working here. So far I couldn't find anything in the Help file - maybe I missed something?

I have a problem considering machine translation via Google. Metatexis connects to the server and downloads a file named "[t]". A pop-up appears asking for chosing a program to open this file. I opened it in notepad and it does contain the translation (among others) but it should be automatically inserted into the segment. How to fix this problem?

SOLUTION:
I sent a message to Metatexis support and received a solution almost immediately. Internet connection must be set to "Winsock" instead of to "Internet Explorer".

Yes, same issue here - way out of this issue is to install the 32bit version of Office 2010
