I just got a 6000-word editing job from an old-time client, which is due tomorrow, Eastern Time. In your experience, what would be the best quoting approach: -- charging an extra editing fee per hour? OR -- a rush fee based on the total word count?

higher than your usual hourly rate. Certainly, you should mention it explicitly before the client sends the PO.
