Dear colleagues, could anyone tell me the best pratice for HTML word counting, there have been some issues about what tool to use and where to download, but not about the different strings; I did the Workbench and the Webbudget word count on the same site; Workbench gives me 10,548 words (5,785 repetitions) with the standard html DTD setting, Webbudget gives me 6926 words (including mouse over, string, body text)this makes a big difference for the cl... See more Dear colleagues, could anyone tell me the best pratice for HTML word counting, there have been some issues about what tool to use and where to download, but not about the different strings; I did the Workbench and the Webbudget word count on the same site; Workbench gives me 10,548 words (5,785 repetitions) with the standard html DTD setting, Webbudget gives me 6926 words (including mouse over, string, body text)this makes a big difference for the client and for me, as I saw on a problem with the "mouse over text" (text that appears on the bottom of the window when the mouse moves over a certain field), TagEditor doesn't treat and so doesn't count this either, Webbuget on the other hand doesn't count the links like ../../folder a/html/images/picture.gif Trados does count it, what can be fine for the translator, every link 10 words, just with copy source; but will the client accept, maybe it is also possible to tune the counting result with the DTD settings, but then there is no uniformity at all; is there a rule for this? thanks for your help cheers ▲ Collapse | | | Have you tried PractiCount? | Jul 1, 2003 |
I think PractiCount gives you better results, just my feeling and if I am wrong, I will welcome the avalanche of postings contradicting me. In that way I can learn something new. | | | Noe Tessmann Local time: 10:12 English to German + ... TOPIC STARTER Praticount Javascript | Jul 1, 2003 |
Hi, no I never tried Praticount, maybe it's worth it, I downloaded it, but when installing I get an error message, doesn't matter, now I realized what makes the difference it's Javascript, TagEditor doesn't handle it, Webbudget does or is there a way to tune Tageditor to handles Javascript? thanks Noe | | | Trados version | Jul 4, 2003 |

Hi Hans, my Trados version is 5.5, meanwhile I got the problem. It's the javascript part. Webbudget handles it correctly. Trados is not able to handle it, and counts the links and other things inside the javascript as translatable words and ignore something like "onmouse over text". cheers Noe | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » HTML word count Webbudget vs. Workbench Trados Business Manager Lite | Create customer quotes and invoices from within Trados Studio
