Translation - English The 2010 edition of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence inaugurates a new cycle, illustrating all of the themes and force lines that make up the current identity of the festival and which we intend on developing in the coming years.
Don Giovanni and Alceste in the Cour de l’Archevêché , is a return to the beginnings of the festival, a dialogue between two mutually admired and influenced artists, a way to revisit the art and thinking of the Age of Enlightenment.
Rameau and Stravinsky resonate throughout the Grand Théâtre de Provence in productions that remind us that contemporary dance and ancestral techniques such as shadow puppetry and Vietnamese water puppetry nourish and enrich opera of the 21st century.
A worldwide creation : "A Return – El Regreso" of Oscar Strasnoy based on a novel by Alberto Manguel. This opera takes the form of a journey through a theme of exile, an initiating journey where the shadow of Virgile accompanies the protagonists – Didon and Enée come to meet the recent history of Argentina and give to the narrative a universal scope.
The 2010 edition equally consecrates the return to the Grand Saint Jean, a magical site that the festival has allowed a large public to know and love since 1999. There we will explore the multiple links between nature and opera, music, dance, and literature.
