I've got a picture showing three pannels of wood put on top of each other but the pannels are slightly out of line from each other... I don't know if my explanation will help you. Thanks for your help.

(sorry, 'grain'!) ...Can you tell from other context if they're referring to jointing of the wood, or to its appearance? The fact that they use 'end' makes me think it's more likely to mean 'pattern-matching' (panels are rarely side-matched)

This is possibly ambiguous; in the timber industry, 'matched' can mean a kind of joint, but in most other fields, I'd expect it to mean that the pattern, garin etc. matches...
