"The Governor and the Deputy Governors [of the Bank of England] are all appointed by the Crown to a term of five years".
Just wanted to make sure - can "the Crown" be translated as "the Queen"?
I've found a long article on "the Crown" on Answers.com http://www.answers.com/topic/the-crown , which describes "the Crown" as "an abstract concept which represents the legal authority for the existence of any government" and "The Crown in Right of the United Kingdom is an entity that represents all rulership in the UK, but is separate from the person currently wearing it" - but that doesn't help very much as I need to find a compact translation.

That would somewhat depend on your target language
For instance, in Arab countries with monarchical rules, we use the expression الديوان الملكي or المقام السامي to indicate that what is intended is not the person of the king, but the king as the holder of the scepter of rulership.

: but be aware that the phrase 'to a term of 5 years' normally refers to time spent in prison!! Here the correct preposition is 'FOR a term of 5 years'
