Spanish term

Aché pa’ mí

Spanish to English Social Sciences Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
Is this some type of blessing? I learned it's a traditional Afro-Cuban greeting. I'm translating an interview with a celebrity. He states that when he goes out in public, he touches something leather and says the above.

How would this best be rendered in English for a U.S. audience?

Many thanks in advance!

Discussion

Taña Dalglish Dec 14, 2006:
Something similar in patois as Miguel suggested would be "knock 'pon di wood"
Part of lyrics of a well known DJ: "Me wanna walk like a champion, Talk like a champion, What a piece of body gal, Tell me where you get it from, Knock 'pon your entrance ....

knock-on-wood

This is how I know it, and it corresponds to the syllables by mere chance.
But frankly, we should try to find a closer saying... maybe some southern proverb (mississippi river kind). Better still, I'ring Taña Daglish she might know better (Dom.Republic).
Peer comment(s):

agree Taña Dalglish : De acuerdo Miguel. En “patios” dicen ‘knock ‘pon (upon) di wood’; but the market is the USA. Ver la nota que añadí.
