This is a modern day film of Carlo Goldoni's short stories. This one in particular is called "LE BARUFFE CHIOZZOTTE" and the main character is a "pescatore di vongole". Thanks

baby clam fisherman
Note- Baby clams are the translation, but in this case I woud try and find something more suitable to the period of Goldoni- Maybe something that invokes shell-fish or sea-food.

cockle picker
This is the first thing that springs to mind, although technically speaking "cockle" belongs to the Cardiidae family of molluscs and normally translates as "cardio" in Italian, whereas clams belong to another mollusc family ...
Keeping closer to the Italian, ** Clam fisherman ** could be an alternative.

: Ivana, I think clam fisherman is probably more accurate, but I LOVE the sound of 'cockle picker'. Absolutely great!!! I know a lot of modern day 'cockle pickers'...

cockle picker
Un altro modo di dirlo è con "cockle picker". Qualche tempo fa c'è stato un incidente con dei cockle pickers cinesi in Inghilterra. "Cockle pickers" è stato il termine usato dai mezzi di comunicazione.
