English term

escalating government actions

English to Spanish Social Sciences Government / Politics New Religious Movements (NRMs)
The most famous case of NRM violence is the Peoples Temple mass murder/suicide in Jonestown, Guyana in 1978, where over 900 people died after consuming soft drinks laced with poison. Until the massacre, the Temple was not in fact considered an NRM but a progressive congregation within the mainstream Disciples of Christ denomination. A series of ***escalating government actions*** combined with tragic misunderstandings played into leader Jim Jones' millennial fears, causing the death of hundreds.
