English term

no load break switch

English to German Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng power switches
From an email between suppliers for Metro-North Railroad, the railway operator for NY City:
"XXX's initial design required that the Load Break Switches would have both the line and load cables entering our enclosure from the top. Since that time Metro-North made many changes for other projects and have standardized on the arrangement that would fit in place of the many *No-Load Break Switches* that they have been using for many years."

I know that Load Break Switches are "Lasttrenner" but I haven't got a clue about the No-Load Break Switches and there are not many Google hits even in English.

Thanks a lot for you help!

Trennschalter

Example sentence:

Note from asker:
Vielen Dank erstmal.

The correct designation of a "no-load break switch" is "disconnector"

EN disconnector
a mechanical switching device which provides, in the open position, an isolating distance in accordance with specified requirements
NOTE – A disconnector is capable of opening and closing a circuit when either negligible current is broken or made, or when no significant change in the voltage across the terminals of each of the poles of the disconnector occurs. It is also capable of carrying currents under normal circuit conditions and carrying for a specified time currents under abnormal conditions such as those of short circuit.

The isolator switch links the incoming power cables with the line feeding power to the motor controllers. It may be set to receive incoming power from the working cable or from the emergency cable or, in the neutral position, to isolate the motor controllers from the incoming power, preventing any current from reaching them. It is, however, what is known in the trade jargon as a "no load break switch".

EN traction motor isolating switch
a switchgroup to isolate one or more traction motors while allowing the vehicle to operate in service in traction or braking with the other motors remaining in circuit

ISOLATING SWITCH
A safety device to either break the continuity of an electric conductor or isolate it from other conductors but which operates only when under no load(oppositely to a circuit-breaker which opera tes when under load). Source: European Union
