The colon is ordinarily attached to the muscles of the back by thin, but strong attachments. These prevent the colon from moving around inside of the abdominal cavity. If these attachments are too long, the colon can swing freely inside the abdominal cavity. The cecum is the part of the right colon that attaches to the small intestine. When the cecum can swing freely inside the abdomen, it is called a cecal bascule. Bascule is the French word for a draw bridge that raises up on one side and is hinged on the other. The point where the colon is hinged can kink, blocking the colon. The part of the colon that swings can become filled with stool or waste. It gets stretched out because it can not empty past the kinked portion. This stretching causes pain and bloating.» En: Cecal bascule. MuscHealth.com. http://www.muschealth.com/ddc/dise/cecbas.htm
