In the US, I have always seen 'activated charcoal" referring to filters, masks and the like, but clearly both carbon and charcoal are valid and are used:

"activated" fares marginally better - 7 for UK of which this is one: www.alfa-restoration.co.uk/.../3ventilation_bulkhead_repair... "Always wear protective glasses and activated carbon mask.", and 5000+ worldwide.
Odd. Hence the low confidence level, but the hits seem acceptable.

Looking through the google hits for carbon/charcoal I am worried that they seem to be referring to different things: the carbon mask is something you put over you airways to stop yourself breathing in toxic stuff, and the latter is something you put on your face to improve your skin....
