Discussion

Markéta Vilhelmová Jan 11, 2010:
Charles, here is explanation in CS I´ve got from my colleague (20 years of experience in transportation): V plachtě jsou ocelová oka, kterýma se provléká lanko (celní lanko), které končí takovýma dvěma očkama, kterýma se pak provléká celní uzávěr s plombou.
Now, you should try the Road Haulage Association again. I am wondering what the right name for "celní očko" is.
Charles Stanford Jan 11, 2010:
Hi there Marketa. Sorry if my posting sounds a bit rude - I was just having a bit of a grumpy morning! I rang the Road Haulage Association in the UK about this and they do not know what is meant by an "eyelet" either. The fact remains that the haulier checks the vehicle tarpaulin, the cord and the customs seal - not any sort of eyelet
Markéta Vilhelmová Jan 11, 2010:
Charles, I had some doubts only about the "eyelet" not about what "celní očko" means in Czech. I worked in transportation field many years and I also had one event when Croatian customs officers refused to leave the cleared goods on a truck as this eyelet for customs seal was damaged. I had to send there another truck for the goods. Believe me, I remember it well. And here is one sentence in Czech "Do první skupiny patří zejména vozidla vybavená klasickými bočnicemi s celními očky a plachtou doplněnou celní šňůrou." However, I am going to ask my colleagues about that.
Charles Stanford Jan 11, 2010:
The eyelet would be a hole in the canvas through which the seal is inserted perhaps - but that is not what the drivers are asked to check
Charles Stanford Jan 11, 2010:
That is why there is no mention anywhere on the Internet of any such thing as an eyelet for a customs seal, a customs seal eyelet or however else you want to twist it - apart from on one Finnish website.... which is frankly a pretty shaky basis
Charles Stanford Jan 11, 2010:
The očko is the circular lead seal
Charles Stanford Jan 11, 2010:
You choose what you like Milos, but I think a lot of truck drivers would be very confused if told to check "the eyelet for the customs seal"... - I think you will find they are actually talking about the seal itself which is in the shape of an "očko". If you don't believe me look at this website - http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPort... which gives you a picture of what they are talking about. "Eyelet" is wrong - sorry Marketa!

Do celního očka se upevňuje celní plomba. Dává ji tam celník po zaclení kamionu se zbožím, které je pod celním dohledem / které je celně odbavené pro vývoz.
