This is a header in a government legal form for changing the name of a company. This part of the form ask for the legal form of the company to be given. It lists several forms of companies and this is one of them. There really is no context as such.
Here is the list of abbreviations and their meanings as given on the form:
CIE Compagnie MUT Mutuelle d'assurance SYC Syndicat de copropriété COP Coopérative APE Association personnifiée AU Autre
I would appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks,
Laura

non-profit corporation or incorporated association
for non-profit corporation see :
"Annual declaration Legal person" (2004)
http://www.crac.com/form/prov/decl_ann_pm_en.pdf (2004)
for incorporated association see
http://www.registreentreprises.gouv.qc.ca/en/consulter/reche...
and
"Declaration of registration Initial Declaration Legal person" (2006)
http://www.crac.com/form/prov/17_init_immat_pm_en.pdf
I only found one translation of non-profit corporation as opposed to two translations of incorporated association, but I think non-profit corporation is more commonly used in North America, incorporated association more commonly used in Australia.
P.S. you mention French as used in France, but as far I'm aware association personnifiée is only used in Canadian French. (Maybe a native speaker could confirm this ?)
