I am trying to find an adequate translation for the above quote by Simón Bolívar, however I am finding it hard to find its original context.
The quote itself was found in an article written by Manuel Domínguez Moreno in 'Cuadernos para el diálogo' and reads:
"El padre de la independencia latinoamericana, Simón Bolívar, explicaba que su felicidad era la estabilidad por la libertad."
I would be grateful if anyone could offer me some insight into this quote and, if possible, suggest a translation - especially of the last section - as I have drawn a complete blank in my research so far.

I have always found happiness in the stability gained from independence.
This is a difficult construction, so I had to get some help. Here is a possible rendering I've come up with. It's hard

The word "por" in the above example could help us see stability as something you get in exchange for being free. It could function as "a través de"
Perhaps, what Bolívar meant by "estabilidad" was peace of mind. Who knows? Someone must know...
