Thanks... sorry I didn´t specify more context.. Thanks to all... given the context of the phone call to check up on a patient, and the fact that the caller is then connected to the doctor, I think Ward Clerk is the ticket here... but the term is confusing without context. Thanks again.

"Responsable" means "manager", so it's a more senior position than a ward clerk. However, as it's fiction, I wouldn't spend too much time finding an exact English equivalent.

So...according to what you are saying..it would be "Ward Clerk". He/She is much more like a secretary in a hospital.
